A Chinese court has rejected an appeal by a US geologist jailed for eight years in July for breaching state secrets by buying data on the nation's oil industry, his lawyer says. The Beijing High People's Court announced the verdict on Xue Feng following a hearing late last year, Tong Wei told reporters yesterday.Washington protested at the time of the hearing because consular officials were barred from the courtroom. US ambassador to China Jon Huntsman was let into the court building yesterday, though it was unclear whether he was allowed into the hearing. The data that Xue bought and planned to sell to a US firm had information on the Chinese oil industry, AP reported. China's three biggest oil companies are state-owned.
