The Computer & Internet law of Australia is targeted to regulate internet service providers (ISPs), content hosting service providers, content service providers and ordinary Internet users. There are two types of computer & internet law in Australia; one is the Commonwealth law and the other is the state and territory criminal law.

What is Computer & Internet Law?

The computer & internet law is the legislation intended for the censorship of the use of the internet in Australia. It covers the internet service providers, content hosting service providers, content creators or content service providers and the ordinary Internet users.

There are two types of computer & internet law. These are the Commonwealth law and the state territory criminal law. The Commonwealth law applies to all ISPs and content hosting service providers while the state territory criminal law is meant for content service providers or content creators and the ordinary Internet users.

Under the computer & internet law, internet service providers and content hosting service providers are required to delete contents from their servers that are considered 'objectionable' and 'unsuitable to minors'. Meanwhile, under this law content creators or content service providers and ordinary Internet users are prohibited to make contents that are 'objectionable' or 'unsuitable to minors'. They are also prohibited to download any content or material that is illegal to possess.

Who Needs Computer & Internet Lawyers?

Computer & Internet lawyers are essential when disputes occur between internet service providers or content hosting service providers and among content creators and ordinary internet users with regards to the use of certain materials in the internet. These lawyers are trained with the legalities concerning the law on computer and Internet use. They can help internet service provider, content service providers and content creators or ordinary internet users in legal matters when they get into trouble with their activities in the Internet.
