Matthew Ward is the newest member of our team. An outstanding graduate of the University of Wollongong, Matthew works as part of the preparation, support and development team that puts each of our cases together. Thoroughly versed in the most modern and advanced research and case preparation techniques, Matthew's work focuses upon discovery, brief analysis, investigative review and proofs. An active member of the local community, Matthew provides significant pro bono legal support to community groups and is involved in mentoring the region's young leaders.

James Howell LLB BA

Senior Associate

James Howell is a senior associate in the team, heading up criminal litigation in Local Court pleas and severity appeals in the District Court. He has an extensive practice containing Private and defended AVO litigation, larceny, domestic violence offences and traffic related defence work. As with everyone in our team, James practices exclusively in Criminal Law and criminal defence work is the core of his legal skills. James is active in pro bono legal help and advice for disadvantaged members of our community. Member of the NSW Law Society

Aaron Kernaghan LLB Hons BA GradDip(LP)

Aaron Kernaghan is the principal lawyer at Kernaghan & Associates and leads a team of solicitors who practice exclusively in criminal law. With over a decade of experience in criminal law, Aaron is a highly successful trial lawyer who specialises in complex criminal litigation and hearings. He has an extensive trial, appeals and hearing practice and leads our team in the more complicated trials (including homicide, robbery, fraud and sexual assault defences).
